University of Nottingham

    There’s no shortage of things to do in Nottingham, however Nottingham Castle is one of the main attractions. The city is famous for its Victorian architecture so if you live in Nottingham, it’s worth spending the day exploring and admiring the city. You can go shopping at the Victoria Centre or go out for dinner and cocktails on Broad Street. Nottingham also hosts some incredible annual festivals like Rock City Music Festival, Nottingham Carnival, and Laugh Out Loud Comedy Festival.

    It takes around 90 minutes to get from Nottingham to London by train.

    Nottingham city centre has a lot of bars and clubs for students to choose from, and it’s known for its buzzing student culture. There are a few different areas that are popular with students, but the main one is around Broad Street. Here you can get craft beers at Brewdog, or have cocktails at The Hockley Art Club. When it comes to clubbing, you’ll want to visit Stealth or Ocean nightclubs to get the best of Nottingham’s student nightlife.

    Nottingham has an incredible live music scene, with both large and intimate venues to see performances from famous musicians as well as upcoming artists. The biggest music venue in Nottingham is Motorpoint Arena. Here is where you can see the biggest names in music, in a crowd of 10,000 people. However, you couldn’t talk about live music in Nottingham without mentioning Rock City. This is potentially the most famous music venue in Nottingham, which hosts gigs with some of the best alternative bands and DJs. It also hosts student nights every Wednesday. Lastly, for a more casual gig from undiscovered talent, try Metronome or The Chameleon Arts Café.

    Nottingham is surrounded by peaceful green spaces to visit whenever you need a break from the city. One of the oldest forests in Nottingham is Sherwood Forest, with some of the trees aged over 800 years old. It’s also the home of the legendary Robin Hood. If you move to Nottingham, take a Vita Student bike to Clumber Park. This huge green space has over 20 miles of cycle routes and is an idyllic place to visit on a sunny day.

    Nottingham has a number of significant sports events throughout the year that you can attend. The annual Nottingham Open being one of them. Here you can watch some of the world’s best tennis players go head-to-head in a match at The Nottingham Tennis Centre. Secondly, Nottingham has regular ice hockey games with The Nottingham Panthers at Motorpoint Arena. Of course, Nottingham has a massive football culture, so go and support your local team, Nottingham Forest.
